Hello! We are the Hines family. A little bit of crazy, fun and mud all mixed together here in the Buckeye State! Life is never dull with seven kids on a mini-farm where we enjoy raising our own food and animals. We currently have cats, chickens and pigs in addition to our Bullmastiff troop. Throw in a fixer-upper farmhouse and you will find you know a lot about what keeps us busy.
We moved to our mini-farm in 2013. After a couple of years overseas we moved back to Piqua in 2016 but didn’t have a dog at the time. We had owned several dogs in the past that were HIGH energy. We had talked about getting another dog and had been doing our research and were pretty sure we wanted a Bullmastiff- a gentle giant, family-friendly and a little lower on the “energy scale” sounded perfect…but we weren’t quite sure we were ready to dive into owning another dog yet. That all changed when we started to have coyote problems in our area and we hadn’t been able to fence our property yet. Little kids and coyotes were not the mix we were looking for…so in early 2017 we welcomed our first Bullmastiff, Bear, into our family!
Bullmastiffs certainly have lived up to our expectations and have become an important part of our every day life. They certainly help keep predators away from our animals and are the most lovable, kid-friendly dog you’ll ever meet (trust me…our toddlers treat them like their own personal jungle gym and they don’t bat an eye!). They have their times of frolic and certainly love to check out whatever farm project is going on but for the most part, they love to find a sunny spot around the farm and curl up to soak in the rays.
Looking for ways to train our kids (and excited about puppies!) we decided to start our own kennel in 2019 with the addition of our sweet mama Goldi. Our kids have not only enjoyed our dogs but have been integral in building our small business. From feeding, grooming, breeding, health care, and puppy care to building kennels and traveling to pick up puppies to add to our kennel, the kids have been involved each step of the way. They have learned a good work ethic, animal care and even some business skills along the way that we hope will serve them throughout their lives.
